Mann Government Launches Menstrual Health Education Initiative for School Girls Across Punjab

Over 3.4 lakh girl students in 3,600 government schools to benefit as Punjab trains 7,200 teachers for awareness campaign

Chandigarh:ย  ย The Punjab Government led by Bhagwant Mann is set to launch a special Menstrual Health Education initiative for school girls across the state from May 29. The campaign aims to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene, health, and wellbeing among girl students studying in government schools.

Under the Menstrual Health Education programme, around 3.4 lakh girl students studying in more than 3,600 government schools across Punjab are expected to benefit. The initiative has been launched as part of the state governmentโ€™s efforts to improve health awareness and create a supportive environment for adolescent girls in schools.

7,200 Teachers Trained for Menstrual Health Education Programme

To ensure effective implementation of the campaign, the Punjab Government has provided special training to nearly 7,200 teachers. These trained educators will conduct awareness sessions and guide students on menstrual hygiene, nutrition, physical health, and related issues.

As per AAP Punjab :

Officials stated that the Menstrual Health Education initiative is designed to break social stigma and myths surrounding menstruation while encouraging scientific awareness and healthy practices among adolescent girls.

Initiative Aims to Promote Awareness, Confidence and Hygiene Among Students

The Punjab Government believes that introducing Menstrual Health Education at the school level will help reduce hesitation and improve confidence among students regarding menstrual health. The programme is also expected to create a more informed and supportive atmosphere in schools.

During the awareness session s, students will receive practical information related to hygiene management, health care, emotional wellbeing, and nutrition.
