In a proud moment for Punjab’s public education system, 260 students from state government schools have qualified the JEE (Mains) —a competitive national examination that opens doors to India’s top engineering institutes. This remarkable milestone reflects the tangible impact of the AAP government’s educational reforms and its commitment to quality education for all.
At a press conference held at Punjab Bhawan, School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains praised the dedication of the students, teachers, and parents whose collective effort led to this success. He also credited Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision for raising the standard of education in government schools.
Government Support Behind the Success
Minister Bains announced that the 260 JEE Mains qualifiers will now be provided free residential coaching for the JEE (Advanced) through a specially organized summer camp in SAS Nagar (Mohali). This initiative aims to further prepare students for India’s premier engineering institutions such as the IITs.
“This is more than just an achievement; it’s a symbol of hope and change,” said Harjot Singh Bains. “The Punjab government stands committed to making quality education a reality for every child.”
He emphasized that improving school infrastructure, teaching standards, and academic resources remains a top priority for the Mann-led administration.
A Story That Inspires: Arshdeep Singh of Patiala
Among the JEE qualifiers is Arshdeep Singh, a student of Shaheed Flight Lt. Mohit Kumar Garg School of Eminence, Samana, who scored an impressive 97.79 percentile. Arshdeep’s journey is a powerful reminder of how determination, despite hardship, can overcome all odds.
After losing his father, Arshdeep was raised by his mother Sunita Rani, who works in a private school and supports the family on an annual income of less than ₹1 lakh. Despite financial strain, Arshdeep remained focused on his goal, receiving academic support through Punjab’s School of Eminence initiative and the PACE program.
“These programs didn’t just help me study—they gave me hope,” said Arshdeep. “Now, I want to help others just as I’ve been helped.”
Schools of Eminence and PACE: A Model of Impact
The Schools of Eminence project, launched under the AAP government, is designed to offer high-performing infrastructure, digital resources, and enriched learning environments in public schools. These institutions are now nurturing talent that can compete at the national level.
The PACE (Program for Academic Coaching and Empowerment) has further supported academically promising students with mentoring, study materials, and regular testing, providing the edge needed to excel in exams like JEE.
