Punjab Drug Rehab Drive Expands as CM Mann Orders Strict Oversight

In a major development in the fight against drug addiction, the Punjab government has significantly expanded its Punjab drug rehab infrastructure under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The number of beds at government-run Punjab drug rehab centres has increased from 1,500 to 5,000 to accommodate the growing number of individuals seeking treatment.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, this expansion is part of the government’s comprehensive anti-drug campaign that combines enforcement with rehabilitation. With intensified crackdowns on drug smugglers disrupting supply chains, more individuals are turning to Punjab drug rehab facilities for support.

To meet this surge, existing Punjab drug rehab centres have been upgraded with better infrastructure, including air conditioning and improved patient care. Several new centres have also been established across districts to ensure wider access. The state has also increased the number of Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centres from 529 to 565, with adequate medicine supplies in place.

Chief Minister Mann has instructed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure that Punjab drug rehab and OOAT centres are fully equipped with necessary beds, medicines, and staff. He issued a stern warning that any negligence in service delivery or mismanagement will attract strict disciplinary action. “The quality of care at every Punjab drug rehab facility must meet high standards. There will be zero tolerance for lapses,” he asserted.

The government believes that a strong and accessible Punjab drug rehab network is essential to restoring the lives of addicted youth and building a healthier, drug-free Punjab. This initiative underlines the AAP government.
