In a significant step toward educational empowerment and social equity, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has disbursed ₹429.24 crore under the Post Matric Scholarship scheme, ensuring smooth and timely financial aid to students from underprivileged communities. The initiative has received widespread appreciation from students and faculty members of Punjabi University Patiala, who hailed the move as a realization of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s dream of accessible education for all.
A Transformative Step for Higher Education in Punjab
The disbursement aligns with the Punjab government’s commitment to uplift economically weaker sections and provide seamless access to quality higher education. The Post Matric Scholarship Punjab program is designed to cover tuition and other academic expenses for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SCs), thus eliminating financial barriers to education.
Speaking on the occasion, students from the university expressed heartfelt gratitude, acknowledging the profound impact of the scholarship on their academic journey and future prospects.
Student Voices: Dreams Realized Through Government Support
Prabhjeet Kaur, a BCA Honours student from Malerkotla, shared her inspiring story. With her father working as a daily wager and supporting five children, higher education once seemed unattainable. Thanks to the scholarship, she has been able to continue her studies without financial stress.
“This scheme has transformed my life. I’m thankful to Baba Sahib and to the Chief Minister for enabling me to pursue my dreams,” said Prabhjeet.
Muskaan Devi, another BCA Honours student, emphasized how the initiative is carrying forward Baba Sahib Ambedkar’s legacy of empowering the youth, particularly from marginalized communities.
“This government has given wings to our dreams and made us active contributors to the socio-economic progress of Punjab,” she added.
Gurleen Kaur, a B.Tech Mechanical Engineering student, echoed similar sentiments. She described the scholarship as a game-changer for students like her, struggling to afford the rising costs of professional education.
Faculty Perspectives: A Boost for Educational Equity
Prof. Ravinder Kaur from the Physiotherapy Department highlighted the program’s effectiveness and praised the timely disbursal of funds, which has eased financial burdens for countless students.
Dr. Jagpreet Kaur, another faculty member, remarked that the scheme has already benefitted hundreds of students at the university. She noted the steep fees of professional courses and emphasized that this initiative has provided a much-needed support system for deserving candidates.
