Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali on February 15 for observation after feeling exhausted, just a day before the Aam Aadmi Party’s major rally in Moga.

Bhagwant Mann underwent a full medical evaluation, including standard diagnostic tests, with his vital signs reported as stable and within normal limits. He is under observation and receiving supportive care from a multidisciplinary medical team.

The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had been in Sangrur since Saturday to attend his niece’s wedding and had to cancel his scheduled visit to Fazilka after feeling unwell. He was moved to Mohali to ensure access to advanced medical facilities.

The hospitalisation comes ahead of the AAP’s mega “anti-drug rally” in Moga on February 16, part of the party’s ‘Yuddh Nasheyan Viruddh’ campaign. The event will be addressed by AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal at Killi Chahlan, a prominent political venue in the district.

The rally gains added significance with Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to visit Moga in early March, marking the start of the BJP’s campaign in Punjab following its split with the Shiromani Akali Dal in 2020.

Moga’s Political Importance

Moga has long been a crucial political hub in Punjab due to its central location, connecting the Majha, Malwa, and Doaba regions. The district has deep ties with farmer movements and political campaigns.

Historically, the Shiromani Akali Dal leveraged Moga during its 75th anniversary “Moga Convention” in 1996, helping broaden its appeal with the slogan “Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat.” The move contributed to the SAD-BJP alliance forming the government in 1997 under Parkash Singh Badal. The district later hosted major election campaigns in 2007 and 2012.

Moga has also been the venue for significant mobilisations in recent years, including Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Kheti Bachao Yatra’ in 2020 and AAP’s farmers’ rally in 2021 opposing central farm laws.

With its strategic location and political legacy, Moga continues to serve as a key launchpad for statewide campaigns. How the AAP conducts its rally amid CM Bhagwant Mann hospitalisation will be closely observed by political analysts.
