PSPCL Ensures Uninterrupted Power Supply for Punjab’s Paddy Season: Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO
Chandigarh, April 16, 2025 – Punjab Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has announced that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) is fully prepared to meet the state’s electricity demands during the upcoming paddy season. In a recent high-level meeting with PSPCL officials, including CMD Ajoy Sinha, the Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted power supply to both agricultural and domestic consumers.
Comprehensive Measures for Uninterrupted Power Supply
Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO highlighted that approximately 17,000 MW of power will be required during the paddy season. To meet this demand, PSPCL has made advance arrangements, including the commissioning of new substations and the augmentation of existing infrastructure. The Minister also directed officials to conduct surveys of the Bathinda and Guru Amardas Thermal Plants to assess their operational readiness. Additionally, plans are underway to explore the establishment of solar power plants on surplus land owned by the corporation.
Ensuring Power Supply for Domestic Consumers
Recognizing the needs of domestic consumers, Minister ETO assured that uninterrupted power supply will be maintained across the state during the paddy season. He emphasized that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has consistently provided reliable electricity to consumers over the past three years, a practice that will continue this season.
Infrastructure Upgrades and Future Planning
To further strengthen the power supply infrastructure, Minister ETO instructed PSPCL officials to ensure that no transformer is overloaded, thereby preventing potential interruptions. He also emphasized the importance of long-term planning, directing officials to prepare for the state’s electricity demands over the next decade. This proactive approach aims to ensure a stable and reliable power supply for all consumers.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
In line with the state’s commitment to sustainable energy, Minister ETO announced plans to enhance the capacity of rooftop solar installations. PSPCL has already added 430 MW of rooftop solar energy, with an additional 86 MW installed in FY 2023-24. These efforts contribute to reducing electricity bills for consumers and promote environmental sustainability.
