Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO Unveils PSPCL Mohali Call Centre Expansion
Chandigarh, April 30, 2025 – In a landmark move aimed at transforming consumer grievance redressal in Punjab’s power sector, Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO has announced the expansion of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) call centre system, including the establishment of a brand-new facility in Mohali.
This strategic expansion is designed to improve the efficiency, responsiveness, and quality of service provided through PSPCL’s 24×7 electricity complaint helpline, 1912.
A Game-Changer for Power Consumers Across Punjab
Currently, PSPCL operates two call centres handling consumer grievances through 120 seats per shift at each centre, supported by 150 call channels. Despite having 360 executives handling calls daily, the high call volume leaves around 30 calls in waiting at any given time. The increasing demand has made expansion critical.
Highlights of the Expansion:
- New Call Centre in Mohali with 250 seats per shift
- Round-the-clock operations, ensuring 750 call executives are active at any given time
- Total call channels increased from 150 to 600
- Enhanced infrastructure and service quality
- Job creation for 750 local youth
Strategic Vision for Better Governance and Employment
“This initiative is a key milestone in PSPCL’s mission to deliver timely, efficient, and reliable customer service,” said Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO. “We are not just enhancing consumer support; we’re also generating significant employment opportunities for Punjab’s youth,” he added.
The project has already seen the tender floated, with the bidding process nearing completion. The new Mohali call centre is expected to be fully operational by June 2025, with state-of-the-art telecommunication infrastructure and trained personnel.
What the Mohali Call Centre Will Offer
The new facility will serve as a comprehensive consumer contact hub, handling a wide spectrum of services:
- Billing-related issues
- New power connection requests
- Power outage complaints
- Meter readings and technical queries
- General consumer inquiries
By integrating advanced digital tools and skilled manpower, the centre aims to reduce wait times, offer real-time assistance, and elevate customer satisfaction across the state.
Enhancing Public Service Under Citizen-Centric Governance
The call centre expansion aligns with the Punjab government’s focus on responsive, transparent, and tech-enabled governance, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann. Harbhajan Singh ETO credited the CM’s visionary leadership for guiding PSPCL’s transformation into a more people-oriented organization.
“This expansion is a testament to our citizen-first approach, ensuring that no consumer’s voice goes unheard,” said the Power Minister. “We remain fully committed to providing uninterrupted power supply and continually improving service standards.”
Economic and Social Impact
The Mohali project is not only about better power services; it also brings positive socio-economic impact:
- Job creation: Employment for 750 individuals across shifts
- Skill development: Training in telecommunication and customer support
- Local economic boost: Infrastructure investment and operational spending
The youth of Punjab stand to benefit from career opportunities, especially those interested in customer service, IT support, and telecommunications.
