Punjab SC Commission Takes Suo Motu Cognizance of Shocking Phillaur Case

Notice issued to SSP Jalandhar Rural; Commission seeks detailed report after disturbing video from Phillaur surfaces online.

Jalandhar/Chandigarh: Taking serious note of a deeply disturbing incident in Phillaur, where a mentally challenged Dalit youth was allegedly forced to engage in an act of bestiality, the Punjab State SC Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the matter. The incident reportedly came to light after a video of the act went viral on social media, sparking outrage and concern.

Providing details, Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said the Commission acted promptly considering the gravity and sensitivity of the case. He stated that a notice has been issued to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jalandhar Rural, seeking a comprehensive status report on the incident by February 19, 2026.

SC Commission Directs DSP to Submit Report, Seeks Strict Action and Protection of Victim’s Dignity

The SC Commission has also directed DSP Bharat Masih to personally submit the detailed report in two copies — one original and one photocopy — at the Commission’s office. Garhi emphasised that strict action must be taken against those found responsible and that the rights and dignity of the victim must be protected at all costs.

He further assured that the SC Commission will closely monitor the investigation to ensure justice is delivered and that no negligence is tolerated in handling the case.
