Punjab Government Allocates ₹2,000 Crore in 2026-27 Budget to Provide Cashless Treatment up to ₹10 Lakh for Families Across the State

Chandigarh :  The Punjab Government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has reinforced its commitment to universal healthcare access by allocating ₹2,000 crore to the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Punjab in the 2026-27 state budget. The funding aims to expand the scheme’s reach and ensure families across Punjab can access cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh at government and empanelled private hospitals.

Expanding Healthcare Coverage Across Punjab

The Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Punjab has steadily grown to cover nearly 65 lakh families, benefiting close to 3 crore residents. The scheme protects households from financial hardship during serious medical emergencies, enabling timely treatment without concern for medical costs.

Over 9 lakh Sehat Cards have been issued, allowing beneficiaries to receive treatment at over 820 empanelled hospitals. The scheme currently provides more than 2,300 treatment packages, covering procedures ranging from heart surgeries, cancer care, kidney treatments, orthopaedic interventions, and accident-related medical procedures.

Speaking about the enhanced allocation in the 2026-27 Budget, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said, “In moments of illness, families should not have to think about money before seeking treatment. Our aim is simple: every household in Punjab should have the confidence that quality healthcare will be available when they need it most.”

Strengthening Medical Infrastructure and Workforce

The government has also bolstered medical services across Punjab by appointing over 1,500 doctors in recent years, including more than 600 specialists and 900 general physicians. This accounts for nearly 35 percent of the doctors currently serving across the state, ensuring timely and quality care under the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Punjab.

Ensuring Financial Protection for Families

The programme allows beneficiaries to focus on treatment decisions based on medical urgency rather than financial capacity. Thousands of families who previously struggled with medical expenses can now access critical healthcare services without upfront costs, reflecting the government’s ongoing commitment to social welfare and health equity.

CM Bhagwant Singh Mann added, “Through the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Punjab, families are empowered to seek treatment without financial stress, and we continue to ensure no one is denied medical care due to lack of funds.”

Encouraging Public Participation

To further expand enrolment, trained youth volunteers are conducting door-to-door campaigns, assisting residents in obtaining Sehat Cards through nearby Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres. The government urges all eligible residents to enrol and take advantage of the scheme’s cashless treatment benefits.

Looking Ahead

With the ₹2,000 crore allocation in the Punjab Budget 2026-27, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna Punjab is set to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand coverage, and continue providing financial protection to families across the state, ensuring that medical treatment is guided by need, not cost.
