Punjab : Upper primary schools run by the Punjab Government in Mohali district have taken a major step towards holistic education with the introduction of a daily meditation programme, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said on Thursday.

The Education Minister, along with AAP Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, interacted with school heads and principals during a workshop held in Mohali. The session focused on the rollout of the meditation initiative, its implementation process, and the positive impact it is having on students’ overall well-being.

Launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the programme has already shown encouraging results. According to feedback shared by school heads, students participating in the initiative are displaying improved calmness, better focus, and enhanced emotional balance. Bains reiterated the state government’s intention to expand similar initiatives across Punjab.

Highlighting key education reforms, including the New India Literacy Programme (NILP), the minister informed that the pilot project was launched on January 19, 2026. The initiative includes a structured 30-minute daily meditation session conducted after the morning assembly, with a standardised 21½-minute meditation module implemented uniformly in all upper primary schools of the district to maintain consistency.

The workshop was welcomed by DEO (Secondary) Mohali Dr. Ginni Duggal, who also highlighted the advantages of the initiative.
