Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak leads Lohri celebrations at Anaj Bhawan, with bonfire, folk songs, dance, and traditional Punjabi sweets.

Lohri, Punjab’s vibrant harvest festival, was celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm at Anaj Bhawan in Sector-39 . Led by Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, the event brought together the whole department to commemorate the start of the harvest season.

The festivities began with the lighting of a bonfire, and the atmosphere was filled with the sound of traditional music and dance. During the ceremony, people enjoyed traditional sweets and snacks such rewri, gajak, and popcorn. The staff lighted the bonfire with great passion, singing folk songs and dancing around it, hoping for blessings of success and happiness.

According to the Minister, Lohri is a prominent event in Punjabi culture that marks the end of winter and the start of the harvest season. It is a celebration of community, thanks, and Punjab’s rich cultural legacy. The celebration is also related with the legend of Dulla Bhatti, a Punjabi folk hero who saved many ladies.

Earlier, the Minister presided over a meeting with District Food Supply Controllers (DFSCs) and praised them for ensuring a successful Paddy procurement season despite the State’s floods. The Minister also urged the DFSCs to encourage more people to complete their e-KYC so that they can continue to receive benefits under the National Food Security Act, 2013.

The Principal Secretary Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Rahul Tewari, Director Varinder Kumar Sharma, Member Punjab State Food Commission Jasvir Singh Sekhon, Additional Directors Food Supply Dr. Anjuman Bhaskar, Ajayveer Singh Sarao, and GM Finance Sarvesh Kumar were among those in attendance.
