Anindita Mitra takes charge as Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, pledging transparent, voter-friendly elections with technology and public involvement.

Anindita Mitra has officially taken charge as Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) . Before this role, she served as the Administrative Secretary in the Department of School Education, Higher Education, and Languages, Government of Punjab. A 2007-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Mitra brings a wealth of administrative experience along with a strong grasp of public governance.

Following her appointment as Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Anindita Mitra expressed her gratitude for being given the authority to oversee a crucial democratic and constitutional institution in the state. She pointed out that for the last 70 years, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has steadily improved the accuracy and inclusivity of electoral rolls while fortifying the framework for holding free, fair, and transparent elections.

“The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab will work with full commitment to uphold democratic values and ensure voter-centric ease at every stage of the electoral process, from voter registration to polling day,” she said. She emphasized that strict adherence to the highest standards and rules set forth by the Election Commission of India, as well as accessibility and transparency, will continue to be important considerations.

Anindita Mitra went on to say that technology will remain essential to increasing transparency, boosting voter services, and guaranteeing effective election administration and operations throughout the state. She expressed optimism that Punjab’s democratic process will be further reinforced through the efficient use of technology, collaboration, and public involvement.
