Harjot Singh Bains Conducts Surprise Inspection, Sets Record with 2,000 School Visits in Punjab

Punjab Education Minister reviews ‘Samarth’ program progress and strengthens school infrastructure under Punjab Sikhya Kranti

Chandigarh: Marking a major milestone in Punjab’s education reforms, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains conducted a surprise inspection at Government Senior Secondary School, Jhita Kalan, as part of his ongoing efforts to strengthen and revamp the state’s government education system. The visit comes after Bains completed ground inspections of over 2,000 government schools across Punjab, setting an unprecedented record in the state’s history.

Speaking on the occasion, Harjot Singh Bains said, “Since assuming office, I have personally visited more than 2,000 government schools across Punjab. This is the first time in the state’s history that an Education Minister has undertaken such an extensive, grassroots-level review of the education system.” He emphasized that no district has been left untouched, from Pathankot to Fazilka and Ferozepur to Mohali, calling the mission his “passion and obsession” to transform education in the state.

During the inspection, Harjot Singh Bains said reviewed school infrastructure, education standards, and the progress of the ‘Samarth’ program, a flagship initiative aimed at addressing the learning crisis in primary classes. Recalling the challenges when he took office, he noted that a significant percentage of primary-level children were unable to read or write. He interacted with students who have shown remarkable progress, highlighting the program’s role in bridging the learning gap.

Harjot Singh Bains Warns Against Negligence, Praises Committed Teachers

Harjot Singh Bains stated, “Through the Samarth program, we identified struggling students and worked closely with them. Where teachers are committed, results have been excellent. However, negligence affecting students’ futures will not be tolerated.” He reaffirmed the Bhagwant Mann Government’s zero-tolerance policy towards school staff negligence and warned that strict action would be taken against underperforming educators.

Highlighting safety and student welfare measures, Harjot Singh Bains informed that campus managers and security personnel have been deployed in all government Senior Secondary Schools with more than 500 students. He also appealed to the public and media to recognize and share the positive developments in schools, stating, “Negative news spreads fast, but the good work of our dedicated teachers should also be highlighted. Jhita Kalan is a prime example where infrastructure upgrades and quality teaching have led to excellent student outcomes, including a student clearing the JEE.”

Praising the students’ recent examination performance, Harjot Singh Bains reiterated the government’s commitment to providing high-quality facilities in government schools. He further directed officials to expedite ongoing development projects to maintain the momentum of educational reforms under the “Punjab Sikhya Kranti” initiative.
