Punjab : The Punjab Government has appointed renowned academician and management expert Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill as the new Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala. The appointment has been made for a three-year term, starting from the date he officially takes charge.
Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill brings over 36 years of extensive experience across academics, research, university governance, and international corporate leadership. A former Professor at Punjabi University, Patiala, he has held several senior administrative and academic positions, making him well-equipped to lead Punjab’s premier sports university towards academic excellence and global stature.
According to an official spokesperson, Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill earned his PhD from Punjabi University in 1993 and had a distinguished tenure at the School of Management Studies, where he made significant contributions to teaching, research, and institutional development. His work has earned him recognition across academic and policy-making circles.

In addition to his academic credentials,Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill has notable international corporate experience. He served as Chief Executive Officer of The Coca-Cola Company in Africa from 1999 to 2001, working in countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. This exposure strengthened his expertise in strategic planning, leadership, and organizational management—skills expected to benefit the administration of MBSPSU.
Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill has an outstanding scholarly profile, having published 84 research papers in reputed national and international journals. He has authored 10 books and written over 400 articles for leading magazines and newspapers on management and related disciplines. He has also served as an Expert Member for Public Service Commissions in Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Sharing his vision for the university,Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill said his goal is to establish MBSPSU as India’s leading institution for integrated sports education, elite performance training, and applied sports research. He aims to foster collaboration among students, athletes, coaches, faculty members, and industry stakeholders to convert sports science into competitive success and long-term career opportunities.
The appointment is expected to significantly strengthen the university’s efforts to nurture world-class athletes and sports professionals, while enhancing Punjab’s presence on the national and international sports education platform.
