DGP Gaurav Yadav confirms full security preparedness with 44,000 staff for Punjab’s Dec 14 local body polls; 18,718 booths secured.
In anticipation of the upcoming Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav stated that the police are completely prepared to facilitate free, fair, and peaceful elections throughout the state, with the deployment of over 44,000 personnel.
Notably, the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab are scheduled for December 14, with the results to be announced following the vote count on December 17.
Highlighting the importance of fostering a constructive environment within the state, DGP Yadav instructed all police officers to uphold professional standards of policing and rigorously comply with all provisions of the Model Code of Conduct.
Disclosing details, Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, who presided over a virtual meeting with CPS, SSPs, and Range DIGs of the state, stated that security measures have been intensified throughout the state. Field officers have been instructed to mobilize at least 75 percent of the police force from districts for deployment during the elections.

All the CPs and SSPs have been instructed to establish robust inter-state and inter-district checkpoints to monitor anti-social elements and conduct flag marches within their jurisdictions to foster public confidence, he stated. Additionally, he mentioned that the DGPs of neighboring states have been requested to set up checking points on their side of the border with Punjab.
He reported that a total of 18,718 polling booths have been established across 13,395 polling stations, of which 860 are designated as hyper-sensitive and 3,405 as sensitive polling stations.
The Special DGP stated that more than 44,000 police personnel have been deployed under the supervision of gazetted officers to ensure transparent, equitable, and peaceful elections in the state.
All CPs and SSPs have also been instructed to maintain continuous and vigilant surveillance in sensitive and vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incidents, he added.
