Chandigarh, May 14, 2025 — In a move that signals Punjab’s intensified stance on civic accountability, Local Government Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh has suspended Dera Bassi’s Executive Officer (EO) Vijay Kumar for failing to maintain proper sanitation standards in the city.
The action follows a surprise inspection conducted by the minister in Dera Bassi, where he personally reviewed the ground situation and found severe lapses in cleanliness and municipal upkeep. Expressing dissatisfaction with the condition of public spaces and the lack of progress in sanitation drives, Dr. Singh immediately ordered the suspension.
Surprise Inspection Uncovers Poor Civic Management
Dr. Ravjot Singh visited Dera Bassi on Wednesday for an unannounced inspection of sanitation work being carried out by the Municipal Council. According to sources present during the visit, the minister found garbage dumps unattended, clogged drains, and poor waste management despite prior warnings.
“The conditions on the ground were unacceptable. Citizens deserve better, and the system has failed them here,” Dr. Singh said.
Following the inspection, the EO was relieved of his duties and instructed to report to the Local Government Head Office in Sector-35A, Chandigarh, until further notice.
