With Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann personally monitoring the investigation into the murder of Harbarinder Singh, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has directed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ferozepur Range Snehdeep Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tarn Taran Surendra Lamba to personally oversee the probe and ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
According to reports, Harbarinder Singh was shot by two unidentified assailants during a marriage function at Sidhu Farm, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Sarhali. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital. Another individual who attempted to chase the attackers was also shot in the leg during the crossfire and is currently receiving treatment.

In a move to enforce accountability, DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patti Jagbir Singh and Station House Officer (SHO) Sarhali Gurvinder Singh have been suspended for failing to implement adequate preventive policing measures. The DGP reiterated the Punjab government’s firm commitment to maintaining law and order across the state.

SSP Surendra Lamba added that preliminary investigations indicate no evidence of threat or extortion. Instead, the possibility of a personal enmity or revenge motive appears strong. He confirmed that the case is being examined from all angles using scientific and technical methods.
Four separate teams have been formed to analyse CCTV footage under the supervision of different officers, while an additional team, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), is scrutinising the crime scene.
“A thorough and methodical investigation will be conducted, and we will ensure exemplary punishment for the culprits,” SSP Lamba affirmed.
