Punjab Government strengthens commitment to SC empowerment through loan waivers and welfare schemes

Chandigarh: Baljinder Singh Chaunda has officially assumed charge as the Chairman of the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation in a ceremony attended by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Dr. Baljit Kaur, and Rural Development Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond. Cabinet ministers congratulated Baljinder Singh Chaunda and extended their best wishes for a successful tenure.

During the event, Cheema, Dr. Baljit Kaur, and Sond reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment to the economic and social upliftment of Scheduled Castes and persons with disabilities. They highlighted various welfare initiatives, including easy loan schemes and historic loan waivers, emphasizing the government’s dedication to ensuring that financial support reaches all eligible beneficiaries.

Chairman Baljinder Singh Chaunda expressed gratitude to Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Affairs In-charge Manish Sisodia, and the ministers for entrusting him with this responsibility. He stated that integrating the Scheduled Castes community into mainstream society remains a top priority, and concrete steps will be taken to empower the community economically.

Baljinder Singh Chaunda outlined plans to provide employment and self-employment opportunities to educated youth from the SC community through simple and transparent loan processes. He also noted that the Punjab Government has already waived loans for 4,727 SC families—a historic initiative promoting social justice and financial empowerment. Additionally, awareness camps will be organized across rural and urban areas to ensure that government schemes for SCs and persons with disabilities reach every eligible individual.

The ceremony was also attended by Vimmi Bhullar IAS, Director of the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities, along with other dignitaries and family members of the newly appointed Chairman.
