AAP Ministers Launch Statewide Protest Against Ration Cuts

Chandigarh – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the central government over the removal of names from Punjab’s ration list. Ministers and MLAs of the ruling party held press conferences in all districts on Sunday, accusing the Centre of conspiring to deny free ration benefits to lakhs of poor families.

Senior AAP leaders alleged that more than 55 lakh Punjabis risk losing free ration benefits under the new rules. They accused the BJP government of targeting Punjab unfairly and pushing an “anti-poor” agenda.

23 Lakh Already Affected, 32 Lakh More at Risk

AAP leaders highlighted that in July, the Centre had already stopped ration benefits for 23 lakh beneficiaries citing incomplete KYC verification. Now, from September 30, another 32 lakh people may lose their ration benefits if the Centre enforces its new guidelines.

“After vote theft, BJP’s new trick is ration theft,” charged one AAP leader during the press briefings. “We will not allow a single ration card to be cancelled in Punjab.”

Cabinet Ministers Aman Arora, Harpal Singh Cheema, Harbhajan Singh ETO, Laljit Bhullar, Dr. Baljit Kaur, and several MLAs addressed media gatherings across district headquarters. They said that free ration is a basic right for poor families and depriving them is both unjust and inhumane.

Leaders Call It Anti-Poor and Anti-Punjab

During the press conferences, AAP representatives described the Centre’s actions as discriminatory. They alleged that the BJP, which claims to provide free ration to 80 crore citizens, is unfairly singling out Punjab by threatening to cancel the ration cards of 55 lakh people.

AAP ministers also pointed out that Punjab has historically been the backbone of India’s food security. Before the Green Revolution, India depended on imports for food grains. Punjab and neighboring states helped make the country self-sufficient in wheat and rice.

“It is ironic that the same Punjab, which filled India’s grain reserves, is now being deprived of ration,” a leader said. “This move is extremely condemnable and exposes the BJP’s bias against farmers and the poor.”

AAP Promises to Protect Beneficiaries

The AAP government has assured citizens that no ration card will be cancelled in Punjab. Ministers promised that the state government is committed to protecting the rights of all beneficiaries.

“The central government should reconsider its conditions,” said an AAP spokesperson. “Free grain is the right of the poor, and we will not let anyone snatch it away.”

The party also alleged that the BJP’s justification for ration cuts was weak. “If one family member makes an error, the whole family cannot be punished,” they argued. “This is a deliberate attempt to harass common people while favoring corporates and industrialists.”

Concerns Over Data Collection

In addition to ration cuts, AAP leaders accused BJP workers of illegally collecting personal data from citizens in the name of government schemes. They warned that such practices are a threat to privacy and called for them to be stopped immediately.

The party alleged that the BJP has already been exposed for manipulating voter lists. According to AAP, these moves are part of a broader attempt to weaken democracy by targeting opposition-ruled states.

Appeal to People and Prime Minister

AAP ministers appealed to citizens to question BJP leaders about the ration card removals. “If they fail to give answers, boycott them collectively,” leaders urged. They also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and stop what they described as an “anti-poor conspiracy.”

The party stressed that Punjab’s welfare is its top priority. It vowed to stand firm against any move that could deprive citizens of essential benefits.

Conclusion

The row over ration card cancellations has sparked political tension in Punjab. With AAP determined to resist and the Centre pushing stricter conditions, the issue is likely to escalate further. For now, AAP’s message is clear: no ration card holder in Punjab will be left out of the free ration scheme.
