Chandigarh: The Haryana Assembly witnessed tense exchanges on Monday as Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda raised concerns over alleged irregularities in fixed deposits at IDFC First Bank. In response, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini assured the House that a thorough investigation has been initiated and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
Government Launches Investigation
The Chief Minister Saini informed the Assembly that the government became aware of the matter about four to five days ago and immediately ordered a probe. Following detection of discrepancies, the funds were withdrawn from the bank and transferred to a nationalised bank to ensure their security. Saini stated that both the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Vigilance Bureau are actively investigating the case.
“Whether it is a government official or a bank employee, no one will be spared. Strict action will be taken against those found guilty,” Saini emphasised.

Opposition Demands Accountability
Hooda pressed the government on its role in the matter, highlighting that the bank had already reported the internal discrepancies to regulatory authorities. He urged the government to identify where the lapse occurred and demanded transparency, insisting that responsibility be fixed once the probe concludes.
Funds Secured, CM Reassures
Reiterating his commitment, CM Saini assured that the funds are fully secure and “every single rupee will be returned.” He cautioned against jumping to conclusions until the investigation is complete.
The issue has emerged as a significant political flashpoint in Haryana. Meanwhile, the state government has issued a notification debarring the bank, while bank officials implicated in the matter have been suspended. An external agency has also been appointed to conduct a detailed inquiry.
