Hisar, Haryana: Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Anil Vij announced that all old electricity meters across the state will be gradually replaced with modern smart meters. Similar to mobile phone services offering prepaid and postpaid options, the new system will allow consumers to choose prepaid or postpaid electricity facilities based on their convenience. Vij noted that this initiative will improve the power supply system and offer transparent, user-friendly services to residents.

Anil Vij further informed that underground electricity cables are being laid in Gurugram and Faridabad, and similar projects will be extended to other areas as needed. This measure is expected to reduce issues such as falling poles and snapping overhead wires, making the power supply safer and more reliable.

On reforms in the Energy Department, Anil Vij highlighted that a strong accountability system has been implemented. During the summer, power cuts have largely been minimized, and all Superintending Engineers (SEs) are required to submit daily reports by 11 a.m. detailing the reasons, duration, and circumstances of any outages. According to Vij, electricity supply has remained satisfactory across most of the state, with explanations sought from only six SEs.

Haryana Sees Power, Transport Reforms: Anil Vij

Anil Vij added that upgrading transformer capacities to meet rising electricity demand is underway. Measures are also being taken to raise low-lying substations to prevent outages caused by waterlogging during the monsoon. Additionally, Haryana has secured coal linkage approval for the new thermal power unit at Khedar in Hisar, which he described as a significant achievement.

On the modernization of Haryana Roadways, Anil Vij said the Transport Department is implementing reform-oriented measures, including a bus tracking system to provide real-time updates on bus movements. Digital display panels will be installed at all bus stands, and a mobile app will allow passengers to check bus locations, routes, and timings directly from their phones.

Anil Vij added that efforts are ongoing to expand the bus fleet, with plans to increase the number of electric buses to reduce pollution and comply with restrictions on older diesel buses in the NCR region.
