AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava Highlights Teacher Shortage and Poor School Infrastructure in Tribal Gujarat

Ahmedabad  Gujarat: AAP MLA from Dediapada, Chaitar Vasava, held a press conference in the Gujarat Assembly today, raising concerns over severe deficiencies in education and school infrastructure in tribal districts of the state.

Chaitar Vasava stated that he had asked several critical questions to the Education Minister regarding the shortage of teachers and the condition of schools in some of India’s most backward districts, including Narmada and Dahod. In response, the government acknowledged that there is a shortage of 549 teachers in Narmada and 1,284 teachers in Dahod.

When asked in a supplementary question how many schools are functioning with just one teacher, the government admitted that 145 schools in Narmada are operating with only a single teacher. Chaitar Vasava emphasized the impossibility of one teacher managing classes from grades 1 to 5 or 1 to 8, and highlighted the challenges when teachers are required to attend government meetings or administrative work, leaving students without guidance.

Chaitar Vasava said, “This is the stark reality in tribal areas of Gujarat — whether it is Narmada, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Panchmahal, Bharuch, or Dang — schools are running with severe teacher shortages, and the government has admitted it today. Their alternative arrangements are still under consideration, which shows a lack of seriousness.”

AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava Questions Lack of Classrooms and Teacher Recruitment in Tribal Gujarat

Chaitar Vasava further highlighted poor school infrastructure, pointing out that many students study in rented spaces, under trees, on the ground, or in overcrowded classrooms where four grades may be taught together. “Every year, thousands of crores are allocated in the budget, so why are proper classrooms not built in tribal areas? Why is teacher recruitment not prioritized?” he questioned.

Chaitar Vasava criticized the state government’s reliance on the ‘Gyan Sahayak’ contractual teacher scheme, which hires teachers for 11 months at a time, saying, “If teachers are hired on temporary contracts and have to worry about their careers, how can they provide quality education to children?”

He concluded by stating that the 30-year BJP government has failed to provide proper classrooms and teachers in tribal regions, and urged citizens to hold the government accountable and demand answers.

AAP Gujarat reiterated its commitment to improving education standards in tribal areas and ensuring that children have access to proper infrastructure and qualified teachers.
