On the second day of the Gujarat Assembly’s budget session in Gandhinagar, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP Gujarat ) MLAs from Visavadar, Dediyapada, Jamjodhpur, and Gariadhar—Gopal Italia, Chhatar Vasava, Hemant Khwa, and Sudhir Vaghani—were present in the assembly and demanded live telecasting of the proceedings.
Speaking to the media, Gopal Italia said that proceedings of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are broadcast live, and sessions of the Supreme Court and Gujarat High Court are also available live on YouTube. Several state assemblies across the country similarly broadcast their proceedings through social media and other platforms. He questioned why, when key national institutions operate transparently for public access, the Gujarat Assembly’s proceedings are not live telecast.
“It is the public’s right to know how the government, funded by their votes and taxes, functions. Farmers, workers, salaried employees, homemakers, and every citizen should have the opportunity to see what their elected representatives are discussing in the assembly and the kind of proceedings taking place,” Italia added. He noted that AAP Gujarat has repeatedly demanded live telecasting in writing and verbally. Today, party MLAs protested inside the house with slogans and banners to highlight the issue. Italia urged the government to strengthen democracy and increase transparency by immediately starting live coverage of the Gujarat Assembly on YouTube, Facebook, and television.

AAP Gujarat MLA Hemant Khwa Says Live Telecast Demands Ignored for Three Years
On the same issue, AAP Gujarat MLA Hemant Khwa of Jamjodhpur told the media that, since AAP legislators were elected three years ago, they have consistently demanded that Gujarat Assembly proceedings be broadcast live. Letters have been sent to the Speaker and the Chief Minister multiple times, he said, but due to the political dynamics between BJP and Congress, public interest issues are not prioritized. Khwa alleged that the live telecast is withheld to prevent the truth from reaching the people of Gujarat.

He added that even over the past 20 years, Congress did not make strong demands for assembly live telecasts, whereas AAP has pursued it persistently. During today’s session, party MLAs again displayed banners inside the assembly to raise the issue. Khwa emphasized that, while sensitive discussions are broadcast live in the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and high courts, the people of Gujarat also have the right to see assembly debates and proceedings. He concluded that opposition MLAs represent the voice of the people and that the entire proceedings, including ministers’ responses, should be transparently broadcast for public access.
Through these actions, AAP Gujarat has once again reiterated its demand for live telecasting of the Gujarat Assembly proceedings across digital and television platforms.
