AAP Leader Saurabh Bhardwaj Questions BJP’s Delhi Jal Board Water Bill Scheme

AAP Leader Saurabh Bhardwaj Calls BJP’s Water Bill Relief Plan Inadequate for Consumers

by Tamanna

New Delhi : A senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Saurabh Bhardwaj, has strongly criticised the BJP‑led government’s water bill relief scheme under the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), calling it a failure and accusing the authorities of failing to address core billing issues faced by consumers.

At a press conference held on Thursday, Saurabh Bhardwaj lambasted the promise made by the BJP after coming to power — that its government would bring a “revolutionary plan” to resolve long‑pending DJB bills. However, he said the scheme, which allows consumers to only pay the principal amount while waiving the late payment surcharge, falls short of real relief for residents.

“We were told that a revolutionary plan would be introduced for DJB bills when the BJP formed the government,” Saurabh Bhardwaj said. “Instead, they have brought a scheme where only the surcharge is waived if consumers pay the principal amount. But millions of consumers say they did not use that much water — so why should they pay these bills?” he questioned, highlighting consumer frustration over unexplained bills and alleged overcharging.

Allegations of Corruption and Intimidation : Saurabh Bhardwaj

Saurabh Bhardwaj also alleged that behind the scenes there may be corruption linked to the scheme’s implementation, claiming that the BJP plan has “failed” and putting pressure on consumers rather than genuinely helping them. He pointed to recent reports of a DJB employee being arrested by the CBI in connection with alleged bribery related to water bills, suggesting serious flaws in the billing process and enforcement.

The AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj argued that the government’s approach will not resolve the deeper problems of faulty and inflated billing that many residents say they have endured for years, and urged more comprehensive solutions rather than temporary surcharge waivers.
