AAP Delhi Questions BJP Over Expanding MCD Commissioner’s Powers Without Legal Amendment

Party Demands Clarity: Will Municipal Governance Be Led by Elected Representatives or Bureaucrats?

Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP Delhi )  has raised serious concerns over the recent administrative decision by the BJP-led MCD administration to increase the Municipal Commissioner’s financial powers from ₹5 crore to ₹50 crore.

According to AAP Delhi leaders, this expansion of powers was implemented through an administrative order issued by Rekha Gupta, but no amendment to the MCD Act was made prior to the move, raising questions about its legality.

Municipal Governance Belongs to the People, Not Unelected Officers,” Says AAP Delhi

AAP Delhi criticism highlights the tension between bureaucratic authority and elected representatives. Party spokespersons emphasized that municipal governance should be led by officials chosen by the people, not by unelected officers making unilateral decisions.

AAP Delhi leader Ankush Naran, commenting on behalf of the party, said, “Will MCD be run by the government elected by the people or by bureaucrats? BJP owes an explanation to the citizens of Delhi.”
