Bihar CM Inaugurates Key Infrastructure and Smart City Initiatives, Strengthening Statewide Urban Renewal Efforts
Patna, May 20 2025 — Taking a significant step toward modernizing Bihar’s urban landscape, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today laid the foundation stone for 1327 new schemes worth ₹1002 crore under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme. The announcement was made during a special ceremony held at the Integrated Command and Control Center at Gandhi Maidan, Patna.

Nitish Kumar Launches 1327 Urban Projects Under ₹1002 Crore Development Scheme
These schemes, implemented by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCo), aim to enhance urban amenities and infrastructure in rapidly growing towns and cities across the state.
Smart Urbanization and Infrastructure Expansion
The event also marked the inauguration of the integration and automation of drainage pumping stations in Patna — a critical component of the Patna Smart City Project. With urban flooding becoming a recurrent issue, this new automated system is expected to significantly improve water management and reduce flood-related disruptions.
Speaking at the event, CM Nitish Kumar emphasized the government’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive urban growth. “With these new schemes, we are ensuring that every urban locality, from small towns to major cities, receives essential infrastructure upgrades. Our goal is to make Bihar’s cities more livable, technologically equipped, and resilient,” he stated.
Comprehensive Urban Scheme Overview
The Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme was conceived to bridge critical gaps in urban infrastructure. The 1327 schemes span a wide range of sectors, including:
- Road and drainage upgrades
- Water supply improvement projects
- Solid waste management
- Stormwater drainage
- Urban housing and beautification initiatives
- Public lighting and sanitation
These projects target both basic civic amenities and advanced infrastructure systems, aiming to enhance the overall quality of life in Bihar’s urban centers.
Patna Smart City: A Model for Modernization
The automation of drainage pumping stations, now operational, will work through centralized digital monitoring systems installed under the Smart City infrastructure. The system enables real-time control, remote diagnostics, and predictive maintenance of the drainage network — ensuring uninterrupted drainage services even during the monsoon.
The Patna Smart City Project has already implemented various digital governance and infrastructure services, such as integrated traffic management, environmental monitoring, and public Wi-Fi zones. The latest addition further cements Patna’s place as a frontrunner among tier-2 smart cities in India.
CM Launches Urban Development Brochure
On this occasion, CM Nitish Kumar also released the official brochure of the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme, detailing objectives, budgets, timelines, and project implementation mechanisms. The brochure will be circulated among government departments, urban local bodies, and public stakeholders to ensure transparency and collaboration.
Significance and Impact
With over ₹1000 crore allocated, this large-scale initiative is expected to generate:
- Thousands of direct and indirect jobs through infrastructure development
- Improved civic services in key urban clusters like Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga
- Boosted investor confidence in Bihar’s urban potential
- Digital integration for real-time governance in major cities
Officials from BUIDCo confirmed that project work will commence in phases and be closely monitored for quality and timely delivery.
