In a major move to strengthen Bihar’s position in fish production, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the newly constructed Fisheries Development Building in Meethapur today. The facility is designed to train farmers from across the state in modern and scientific fish farming techniques.
State-of-the-Art Facilities for Farmers
During his visit, CM Nitish Kumar inspected the conference hall, director’s office, and workstations on the first floor, followed by a review of the fourth-floor facilities. Officials explained that the building, developed under the Fisheries Directorate, will serve farmers from all 38 districts of Bihar.
The center can accommodate 120 farmers at a time and features a hostel for trainers. Spread over 2.43 acres and built at a cost of ₹54.39 crore, it also houses a Fisheries Research Centre and modern laboratories, offering both advanced research and hands-on training for fish farmers.

Focus on Early Operations and Safety
The Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed officials to relocate the Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Department to the new building as soon as possible. He also emphasized installing safety railings on all floors and ensuring all necessary facilities are operational so that farmers can fully benefit from the infrastructure.
Bihar’s Vision for Fish Production
The state government has been actively promoting agriculture, livestock, and fisheries under its Agriculture Roadmap, which has already boosted the production of vegetables, milk, eggs, meat, fruits, and other crops. With the inauguration of this modern Fisheries Development Building, Bihar aims to become a leading state in fish production by equipping farmers with scientific techniques and research-based training.

Officials present during the inspection included Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Secretaries Kumar Ravi and Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, Secretary of Animal and Fisheries Resources Department Kapil Ashok, Fisheries Director Tushar Singla, Patna DM Dr. Tyagarajan S.M., Patna SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma, among other senior officials.
