New Delhi:  The Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback has come under the spotlight after Vinesh Phogat alleged that her return to competitive wrestling is being obstructed. The Olympic medallist, who had earlier announced her retirement following disappointment at the Paris Olympics, reversed her decision in December and began preparing for a comeback.

However, the Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback has hit an unexpected hurdle, as the wrestler claimed she was unable to register for the upcoming National Open Ranking Tournament despite being ready to compete.

Registration Row & Lack of Response

The Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback faced a major setback when she revealed that repeated attempts to contact officials from the Wrestling Federation of India have gone unanswered.

Speaking about the issue, Phogat said that although registrations were open until April 30, the portal showed as closed when she tried to apply. She added that her efforts to reach the federation’s administrative staff did not receive any response.

She further highlighted that last-minute changes in selection criteria also impacted her chances. According to Phogat, she intended to compete in the Federation Cup, but revised rules prevented her participation—raising more concerns around the Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback.

The wrestler expressed frustration, stating that it feels like a deliberate attempt to stop her from competing, especially when these tournaments are crucial for qualification to major events like the Asian Games and World Championships.

WFI Responds to Allegations

Responding to the claims surrounding the Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback, the Wrestling Federation of India denied any wrongdoing. WFI chief Sanjay Singh said that the federation has not intentionally blocked any athlete from entering competitions.

He noted that similar complaints were received from other wrestlers and were resolved after they contacted the federation staff. He emphasized that the tournament remains open for all eligible participants.

Selection Criteria and What Lies Ahead

Amid the ongoing Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback issue, WFI’s Asian Games selection policy has also come into focus. As per current rules, only medal winners from the 2025 National Championships and the 2026 Federation Cup are directly eligible for senior selection trials.

However, strong performances in the Open Ranking Tournament could still provide a pathway by securing a place in the national camp.

For Vinesh Phogat, the Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Comeback now carries added urgency, as participation in these key tournaments is essential to keeping her hopes alive for upcoming international competitions.
