IPL 2025 Set for Resumption: BCCI Weighs Three Draft Schedules, Decision Expected Soon

After a tense pause in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is racing against time to finalize a path forward. According to sources familiar with the matter, the BCCI has prepared three potential draft schedules for the league’s resumption, with a final decision expected late Monday evening.
A total of 16 matches—including the four crucial playoff fixtures—are still pending in this year’s tournament, which was suspended mid-way due to mounting uncertainties surrounding player safety and operational logistics.
Three Plans, One Goal: Completing IPL 2025
Among the three draft options under discussion, one adheres to the traditional home-and-away format, albeit with minor alterations. Dharamsala is reportedly excluded from the list due to its logistical limitations and recent weather concerns. The other two schedules propose a more concentrated approach, potentially limiting the remainder of the tournament to just a few southern venues—Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
These cities are being considered for their existing infrastructure, security preparedness, and relatively stable conditions compared to other regions. However, when contacted, the respective state cricket associations confirmed they have not yet received any formal communication from the BCCI, indicating that the final call is still in the works.
A Meeting That Could Change the Course
The IPL Governing Council is scheduled to meet this afternoon to finalize the roadmap. Although the meeting hasn’t been officially confirmed to all council members, insiders note that such sessions can be convened at extremely short notice—sometimes as little as 15 minutes. This was the case when the league was abruptly suspended, following a meeting called and concluded within the span of an hour.
Hints of resumption are already surfacing. Franchise managements have reportedly been asked by IPL and BCCI officials to prepare for reassembly at their respective home bases, with an eye on restarting matches as early as May 16 or 17.
Playing Without a Full Roster?
While logistical planning is in full swing, one pressing challenge remains unresolved: the availability of foreign players. Several overseas stars left India following last week’s tense political and safety concerns. Their return remains uncertain, and it’s likely that teams will need to adjust to playing without some of their key international players.
Yet, the BCCI appears firm in its determination to bring IPL 2025 to a fair and timely conclusion. “Extraordinary circumstances require practical solutions,” said a senior IPL official, speaking on condition of anonymity. “This season may not look like previous editions, but the spirit of the IPL is very much alive. We owe it to the fans, the teams, and the sport.”
A Critical Week Ahead
As cricket lovers across the globe wait for clarity, all eyes are now on the IPL Governing Council’s next move. Will the league stick to its roots with multiple venues, or opt for a simplified, controlled environment to mitigate risks?
One thing is certain—the BCCI is moving quickly, determined to salvage the remainder of what has already been an unpredictable and challenging season.
