Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from IPL 2026 by BCCI without discussion. Bangladesh bans IPL telecasts, straining cricket ties with India.
During the recent IPL 2026 Mini Auction, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) acquired Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India (BCCI) ordered his removal from the team not even a month after the acquisition. As a result, Bangladesh prohibited the IPL broadcast.
Remarkably, according to a report, the BCCI’s top level decided to withdraw Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL without holding any official talks.
The decision to remove Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL was not discussed.
According to the aforementioned story, a “top BCCI official” claimed that no negotiations were taken to reach the decision and that they learned of the Bangladeshi cricketer’s IPL expulsion from the media.
“This information was made public by the media. No conversation took place. We didn’t make any recommendations.

As previously stated, Bangladesh stopped all IPL telecasts in the nation as a result of the ruling.
Bangladeshi authorities claimed that the judgment had damaged public opinion and lacked a logical justification. With a bilateral series postponed from 2025 and Bangladesh considering hosting its ICC T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside of India, the proposal comes amid deteriorated cricketing ties between India and Bangladesh.
According to a report, senior BCCI officials have dismissed the idea, calling it “next to impossible” and “highly impractical” to implement. India and Sri Lanka are hosting the competition, which will start on February 7.
However, as the T20 World Cup draws near, a definitive decision regarding Bangladesh’s match venue should be made as soon as possible.
