RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Highlights the Role of Hindu Society in Promoting Unity at 100th Anniversary Event

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Calls for Unity in Hindu Society on 100th Anniversary

In a significant address at a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) program held at the SAI Ground in Bardhaman, West Bengal, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the crucial role of Hindu society in promoting unity and fostering a culture of inclusivity in India. Speaking to a gathering of RSS supporters, Bhagwat highlighted the organization’s centennial milestone and reiterated the importance of uniting the Hindu community to ensure a stronger, more cohesive society.

A Century of RSS: Celebrating 100 Years of Service

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the RSS, an organization that has grown to become one of the largest voluntary organizations in the world, with an impressive network of 70,000 sakhas (branches) spread across India. In his speech, Bhagwat took a moment to acknowledge the journey of the RSS, noting that it is an institution that has been misunderstood by many due to its focus on the Hindu community and its approach to social harmony.

As part of the centenary celebrations, Bhagwat discussed the profound impact the RSS has had on Indian society, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to uniting Hindus and promoting values that transcend geographical and cultural boundaries.

The Core of RSS: Uniting Hindu Society

One of the key points Bhagwat addressed was the ongoing question of why RSS focuses specifically on Hindu society. In response to critics who often ask why the RSS does not work for other communities, he provided a clear explanation: “The responsible society of the country is Hindu society.”

Bhagwat pointed out that Hindu society, due to its cultural and historical significance, plays a vital role in maintaining the unity of the nation. “Hindu society believes that unity itself embodies diversity,” he added. According to Bhagwat, the values ingrained in Hinduism help foster a sense of unity that can accommodate the nation’s diversity, making it the cornerstone of India’s societal fabric.

This statement reinforces the RSS’s view that its mission is not to exclude other communities but rather to strengthen the Hindu society that has historically played a central role in India’s social, cultural, and spiritual life.

RSS’s Vision: Understanding and Inclusivity

A central message Bhagwat conveyed was the need for greater understanding of the RSS and its purpose. He acknowledged that the organization’s work is often misunderstood by those who are unfamiliar with its goals. “It takes time for people to understand the Sangh, but its sole purpose is to unite the Hindu community and foster ‘atmiyata’ (a sense of close bond),” he explained.

Bhagwat urged those present to recognize the significance of the RSS’s efforts to build character within society. He drew a parallel to the work of Lord Buddha centuries ago, who sought to develop strong moral character and community values. By promoting a similar sense of unity and integrity, the RSS aims to encourage a more responsible and united Hindu society.

Embracing India’s Diversity

In line with the RSS’s longstanding slogan “unity in diversity,” Bhagwat stressed the importance of embracing the diversity within India. He noted that while some groups may have chosen to leave the nation based on their differing values, those who remained in India inherently embraced its essence.

“This essence,” Bhagwat said, “is Hindu society, which thrives by accepting the world’s diversity. Hindu society does not just understand diversity; it sees diversity as part of unity.” He emphasized that true unity comes from acknowledging and celebrating diversity and that the values of Hinduism, rooted in the acceptance of multiple perspectives, can serve as a guide for achieving this unity.

According to Bhagwat, the RSS’s primary objective is not to create divisions but to foster an environment where every individual, regardless of their background, can find a place in a harmonious society.

The Call to Action: Join the RSS

In his address, Bhagwat made an open appeal to the public to understand the RSS’s vision and consider joining the movement. He explained that there are no membership fees or formal requirements to participate in the RSS’s activities. “If you understand our values and like what we do, come join us; if you don’t, you are free to leave,” Bhagwat stated, highlighting the inclusive and voluntary nature of the organization.

This open invitation underscores the RSS’s emphasis on voluntary participation and its focus on nurturing an inclusive, responsible, and unified Hindu society.

Looking Ahead: A United Future for India

As the RSS celebrates its centennial year, Mohan Bhagwat’s message was clear: the future of India depends on the strength and unity of its society, particularly its Hindu community. By embracing diversity and fostering unity, the RSS aims to continue its work in building a stronger, more inclusive India.

Through its efforts, the RSS seeks not only to unite Hindus but also to contribute to the larger vision of an India that respects its cultural diversity while standing united. As the country continues to navigate challenges and opportunities on the global stage, Bhagwat’s call for unity remains a guiding principle for the RSS and its supporters.
