Vigilance Bureau arrests Police Sub-Inspector for accepting Rs 10000 bribe

Chandigarh December 17, 2024 –  The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Tuesday arrested Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh (Now Retired), who was then posted at police station Cantonment, Amritsar for accepting a bribe of Rs 10000. He was currently lodged in the Central Jail Amritsar under NDPS Act and was brought on the production warrant and was arrested as per law by the Bureau.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned police official has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Joga Singh, a resident of village Kotli Naseer Khan, Amritsar.

He further added that as per the complaint the accused police Sub-Inspector during his posting had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,00,000 from the complainant in lieu of declaring his son innocent in an FIR against him lodged in the year 2017 at the police station Amritsar Cantonment.

During investigation of this complaint, it was proved that the said police personnel had demanded Rs 100,000 and had taken a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant for the above said motive.

The spokesperson informed that in this regard, an FIR dated 28.11.2024 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Amritsar range. Further investigation into this case was under progress, he added.
