PUNJAB TO HAVE SEVEN AGRI-RESIDUE BASED CBG PROJECTS BY YEAR END: AMAN ARORA

Chandigarh, February 8: In order to further ramp up green energy production in the state as desired by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, as many as seven Compressed Biogas (CBG) projects of total capacity around 79 Ton Per Day (TPD) CBG will be operational by the end of this year, revealed Mr. Aman Arora, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Sources, Punjab.

He, along with Secretary New and Renewable Energy Sources Mr. Ravi Bhagat, was chairing a meeting to review the ongoing projects of the department.

Mr. Aman Arora said that these seven projects will consume over 2.72 Lakh ton paddy straw annually. Apart from this, four CBG projects of total capacity over 85 TPD CBG have already been commissioned for which around 1.70 Lakh Ton paddy straw was collected. These projects will go a long way to solve the stubble burning problem in the state, besides, giving a fillip to the state government’s efforts to make the Punjab leading state in green and clean energy production, he added.

Punjab Government has been making all-out efforts to bring down the stubble burning cases to zero, said Mr. Aman Arora, while adding that Punjab Government has drafted a Biofuel Policy. A Green Hydrogen Policy has also been formed to decarbonise the economy and reduce dependence on fossil fuel, besides, enabling the state to assume technology and improve regional air quality while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Mr. Ravi Bhagat apprised the Cabinet Minister that as many as 101 government buildings have been equipped with solar PV panels in last year and the PEDA has fixed a target to equip 897 more government buildings with solar panels in this year.

Special Secretary New and Renewable Energy Sources Mr. Sukhjeet Pal Singh, Director PEDA Mr. MP Singh, Joint Director Rajesh Bansal and officials from Transport and Rural Development & Panchayat were also present in the meeting.
