In an effort to safeguard the interests of farmers and enhance the quality of agricultural produce, Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian, announced the development of an online portal to track and trace paddy seed transactions across the state. This portal, which is expected to be launched within a month, aims to eliminate the widespread sale of uncertified paddy seeds, a practice that has long harmed both farmers and the rice industry in Punjab.
The announcement came during a high-level meeting attended by key officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture Mr. Anurag Verma and the Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal. The portal will provide a digital platform for registered seed producers, allowing them to log detailed information on all transactions related to paddy seeds, including purchases, sales, and quantities.
