Punjab Police Enhances Border Security with 2,300 CCTV Cameras and Cyber Crime Police Station

Chandigarh/Pathankot, February 3 – In a major initiative to boost security and surveillance along its border areas, the Punjab Police announced the installation of 2,300 CCTV cameras at 703 strategic locations from Pathankot to Fazilka. The project, valued at Rs. 45 crores, is aimed at strengthening the second line of defense to combat emerging threats from terror activities, smuggling, and cross-border crime.

Speaking from Pathankot, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav unveiled the plan, stating that the CCTV network would enhance monitoring capabilities, especially in critical border districts. “We are reinforcing our security infrastructure with these cutting-edge technologies to ensure better vigilance, particularly in high-risk areas,” said Yadav.

Key Security Projects Unveiled by DGP Gaurav Yadav

DGP Yadav was in Pathankot to inaugurate several important police infrastructure projects, including a new Cyber Crime Police Station aimed at tackling online crimes. The new facility, located on the second floor of Police Station Division-1, will focus on addressing complex cybercrimes, online frauds, and other digital threats. Citizens can now report cybercrimes directly or through the dedicated toll-free helpline number 1930.

In addition to the cybercrime facility, the DGP also inaugurated an overhauled Police Command and Control Centre in Pathankot. The revamped center is equipped with 344 HD cameras, including Auto Number Plate Reader (ANPR) cameras, to monitor key areas like the Second Line of Defence and other strategic routes across the city.

Strengthening Surveillance Along the Border

With an eye on enhancing the surveillance network along the border, the Punjab Police plans to further strengthen the security of rural areas and major entry and exit points. The installation of additional 357 cameras is set to expand the reach of real-time monitoring, particularly around Pathankot city. The project is part of a broader strategy to fortify security along the Indo-Pak border and tackle cross-border terrorism and illegal activities.

“We are fully committed to enhancing the security of our border districts,” DGP Yadav added, highlighting the strategic importance of Pathankot and the surrounding areas. “This initiative is crucial for keeping a close watch on the activities happening at the border and ensuring the safety of our citizens.”

Joint Security Efforts to Combat Terrorism and Smuggling

One of the key highlights of the visit was a joint meeting attended by officials from the Punjab Police, Indian Army, and Border Security Force (BSF) at Police Station Narot Jaimal Singh. The meeting focused on the growing threat posed by the nexus of terrorists, gangsters, and smugglers, particularly those operating under the influence of Pakistani intelligence (ISI).

DGP Yadav called for closer coordination among security agencies to break the terrorist-gangster-smuggler nexus, emphasizing the need for better information sharing and joint operations. “We must work as a unified team to dismantle this dangerous network. Collaboration between the Punjab Police, Army, BSF, and Central Agencies is the need of the hour to ensure our security,” he stated.

In recognition of the tireless efforts and dedication of the police force, DGP Yadav also honored several high-performing officials from both the Punjab Police and BSF with Commendation Discs and appreciation letters. These gestures were intended to motivate officers and boost morale in the ongoing fight against terrorism and cross-border crime.

DGP’s Visit to BSF’s Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost

As part of his visit, DGP Gaurav Yadav also inspected the security arrangements at the Shaheed Kamaljeet Singh Border Outpost (BOP) situated at the Indo-Pak border. During the visit, he interacted with security forces deployed at the border and reviewed the operational readiness to address potential threats from across the border.

The visit served as a reminder of the constant vigilance required to safeguard the Punjab border against infiltration and other security challenges. DGP Yadav’s focus on both technological advancements in surveillance and collaboration among security agencies reflects a comprehensive approach to tackling modern security challenges.

DGP’s Efforts to Build Stronger Police-Community Relations

In addition to the security infrastructure projects, DGP Yadav participated in a ‘Bada Khana’ lunch organized by the Pathankot Police. This informal gathering provided an opportunity for officers of various ranks to interact with the DGP and exchange ideas. By strengthening relationships within the force, Yadav aims to foster a more cohesive and effective police department capable of addressing the region’s security concerns.

The lunch also served as a platform to discuss the importance of teamwork and cooperation among all security agencies working in the region. DGP Yadav emphasized the critical role of collaboration in ensuring public safety and responding effectively to emerging threats.

Conclusion: A Focused Approach to Enhancing Punjab’s Security

With the installation of 2,300 CCTV cameras and the launch of a new Cyber Crime Police Station, the Punjab Police is significantly enhancing its security infrastructure. DGP Gaurav Yadav’s proactive approach to border security, cybercrime prevention, and inter-agency coordination is setting a new standard for tackling modern-day security challenges. As these initiatives roll out, Punjab is poised to strengthen its defenses and ensure a safer environment for its citizens.
