Punjab Government Launches New Bus Routes to Enhance Connectivity in Lehragaga Constituency

In a significant move to improve public transportation in Punjab, Cabinet Minister Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal, under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, inaugurated two new bus routes in the Lehragaga constituency on Sunday, March 16, 2025. The newly introduced bus services cater to long-standing travel demands from local residents, particularly benefiting the people of Lehragaga and surrounding areas.

The two new routes that were flagged off from the Lehragaga Bus Stand are:

  1. Lehragaga to Hoshiarpur
  2. Moonak to Khanauri

Both routes are expected to bring immense relief to daily commuters, traders, students, and other residents who have long faced difficulties due to a lack of direct bus services in these regions.

Direct Bus Service from Lehragaga to Hoshiarpur

One of the most significant developments in local transport is the new Lehragaga to Hoshiarpur bus service. Prior to this initiative, people traveling between Lehragaga and Hoshiarpur had to make long and tiresome journeys, often involving multiple transfers. The new bus service now provides direct connectivity between these two towns, easing the travel burden for many.

The bus will depart daily at 6:45 AM from the Lehragaga Bus Stand, traveling through Sunam, Sangrur, and Ludhiana, and will reach Hoshiarpur by afternoon. The return trip will commence from Hoshiarpur at 2:37 PM, ensuring smooth travel for passengers on both ends.

The 422-kilometer route promises to save time and offer comfort to passengers who previously had to struggle with indirect routes or lack of transportation options. This direct bus service addresses a critical gap in public transport, ensuring that the people of Lehragaga and surrounding towns can now access Hoshiarpur more efficiently.

New Moonak to Khanauri Bus Service for Students and Local Residents

In addition to the Lehragaga-Hoshiarpur route, a second bus service has been introduced between Moonak and Khanauri. This route has been a major point of concern for students, who previously faced substantial hardships in traveling between the two locations for educational purposes. The absence of government-run buses on this route meant that students had to rely on private transport, often at higher costs.

With the launch of this new service, students can now commute easily between Moonak and Khanauri, without the stress and inconvenience of irregular transport options. The new bus service will also benefit the local residents, especially those who travel for work or other essential activities. The timely resolution of this issue has been warmly welcomed by the people of the region.

Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal Highlights Punjab Government’s Commitment to Development

While addressing the gathering, Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal expressed his gratitude towards Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, Transport Minister S. Laljit Singh Bhullar, and PRTC Chairman S. Ranjodh Singh Hadana for their support in making these services a reality. He emphasized that these new bus routes are part of the Punjab government’s larger vision to address the needs of rural and urban communities alike, ensuring equal development for all regions.

“The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is fulfilling the long-standing demands of the people in Lehragaga and surrounding areas. While previous governments neglected rural needs, our government has taken concrete steps to improve public services such as transportation, healthcare, and education,” said Minister Goyal.

He further highlighted the government’s commitment to inclusive development, which includes providing accessible and affordable transportation options for all. The launch of these bus routes is just one example of how the current administration is addressing the essential needs of citizens and bridging the gaps in infrastructure.

Benefits of the New Bus Routes

The newly inaugurated bus services are expected to bring several benefits to the residents of the affected areas:

  • Reduced Travel Time: Direct routes will save passengers time by eliminating the need for multiple transfers and long detours.
  • Improved Accessibility: The new bus services will make it easier for local residents to access major towns for work, education, and business.
  • Affordable Transportation: These government-run bus services provide an affordable and reliable travel option, particularly for students and lower-income families.
  • Boost to Local Economy: The improved transport connectivity between towns will foster better trade and commerce, benefiting local businesses.

Public Support and Recognition

The launch of the new bus routes has been well-received by the local community, which has long voiced concerns about the lack of direct transportation services. In particular, the residents of Lehragaga and Moonak have expressed their gratitude to the Punjab government for fulfilling their demands and making travel easier for them.

Gaurav Goyal, Market Committee Chairman Sheeshpal Anand, and other local figures attended the event, underscoring the widespread support for this initiative. Many residents have already expressed how these services will greatly improve their daily lives, particularly for students, elderly people, and daily wage earners who depend on affordable public transport.

A Step Toward More Development in Punjab

The launch of these bus services is part of a broader series of development initiatives being carried out by the AAP-led Punjab government. The focus on improving infrastructure, such as transportation, reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of both urban and rural populations. With more such projects on the horizon, the state is set to witness significant improvements in public services in the coming years.

Cabinet Minister Sh. Barinder Kumar Goyal concluded the ceremony with a promise that these changes are just the beginning of a larger transformation that will touch every corner of Punjab, ensuring that no village or town is left behind in the development process.
