Punjab CM Vows to Build a Progressive State as Dreamt by Shaheed Bhagat Singh
Punjab CM Promises to Realize Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s Vision of a Progressive Punjab
Khatkar Kalan (SBS Nagar), March 23 — Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, on the occasion of the martyrdom day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to fulfill the dreams of these iconic freedom fighters. Addressing a state-level function, the CM emphasized that the current administration is dedicated to transforming Punjab into a prosperous and progressive state, in line with the vision laid out by these great martyrs.
Paying Tribute to National Heroes
During the event held in Khatkar Kalan, the Chief Minister stated that this solemn occasion was not a political one but a tribute to the martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for India’s independence. “We owe a deep debt of gratitude to Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev. It is our solemn duty to keep their memories alive and realize their dreams for a free and fair society,” CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said.
The government has already taken steps to honor the legacy of these national heroes, including the construction of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Medical College, a Rs 300 crore project, and naming Mohali Airport after Bhagat Singh — a decision made under the current government after years of neglect.
Key Government Initiatives in Tribute to Martyrs
The CM highlighted several key initiatives his government has undertaken to realize the aspirations of these martyrs. Among them is the establishment of the Nishan-e-Inquilaab plaza in Mohali, which features a 30-foot bronze statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This plaza aims to ensure that the martyr is remembered by all those traveling on the road, constantly reminding them of his unparalleled contribution to India’s freedom struggle.
In addition, the Punjab government has also focused on the empowerment of citizens. Since assuming office in March 2022, CM Mann’s administration has provided free electricity to 90% of households in Punjab and opened 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics, offering free treatment to over three crore patients.
Tackling Corruption and Poverty
In a passionate address, CM Mann underscored that corruption and inequality were still major obstacles in realizing the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He voiced his concern over the recent recovery of vast sums of money from the homes of officers and judges, questioning how justice could be served when such corruption prevails. “The martyrs did not lay down their lives for a system where corruption reigns. We must put an end to this rot,” he said.
The CM further criticized the previous administrations for their failure to curb corruption, saying that the country’s leaders, post-independence, had plundered the nation more ruthlessly than the British colonial rulers. Despite these challenges, CM Mann expressed optimism, stressing that the current administration is committed to creating a fairer, more just society.
Empowering the Youth and Weaker Sections
Aligning with the ideals of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Chief Minister mentioned that his government is dedicated to empowering the youth and weaker sections of society. The state government’s Schools of Eminence project aims to provide quality education to bright, underprivileged students, fulfilling Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of making education accessible to all, irrespective of their socio-economic status.
Additionally, CM Mann noted that his government had provided over 52,000 government jobs to young people, strictly based on merit. This, he stated, is a step towards creating equal opportunities for the youth and empowering them to contribute to the state’s development.
A Future of Hope for Punjab
Punjab, under CM Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, is striving to emerge as a leader in the country’s growth story. The CM remains resolute in his commitment to the values of liberty, equality, and justice that were championed by Shaheed Bhagat Singh and other martyrs of the freedom struggle.
“I am confident that Punjab will soon be among the front-running states in India. We are laying the foundations for a harmonious, progressive, and prosperous society, one that reflects the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh,” said CM Mann.
A State Poised for Change
Reflecting on the extraordinary sacrifices made by Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the CM called on the youth to follow in his footsteps and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation. “Shaheed Bhagat Singh was not just a martyr; he was an institution in himself. His ideals of nationalism, unity, and progress continue to inspire millions,” he said.
The Chief Minister concluded the event by paying tribute to the martyr at his statue, further reinforcing his commitment to fulfilling the vision of a free and equitable Punjab.
