Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal Inaugurate Renovated Civil Hospital in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, March 18: In a major step toward improving healthcare infrastructure and providing quality medical services, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, alongside Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, today inaugurated the newly renovated Civil Hospital in Ludhiana. This revamped facility is set to significantly improve healthcare delivery for the people of Ludhiana and surrounding areas.

The renovation project, spearheaded by the Punjab state government with substantial efforts from Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, marks a transformative milestone for the hospital. The state-of-the-art facility now boasts ultramodern medical equipment, better infrastructure, and enhanced hygiene standards, ensuring a higher quality of care for all patients.

Modernization Brings Comprehensive Changes to Infrastructure

The renovation of Ludhiana’s Civil Hospital is not just about upgrading equipment but also about enhancing patient comfort and ensuring a hygienic environment. Among the most notable upgrades is the installation of a fully modular Orthopedic Operation Theatre, built at a cost of nearly ₹1 crore. This facility is equipped with advanced surgical tools and cutting-edge medical technology, enabling orthopedic surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision and safety. The modular design of the theatre ensures an infection-controlled environment, contributing to better surgical outcomes.

The hospital has also undergone a complete overhaul of its sanitation facilities. All washrooms in the Outpatient Department (OPD), Emergency Unit, and Inpatient Wards have been renovated with upgraded fixtures, anti-slip flooring, and enhanced drainage systems. Cleanliness is a top priority, as reflected by the provision of 500 new, high-quality bed sheets for patient use and the installation of five advanced 80-litre water coolers across the hospital premises to provide purified, chilled water for patients and visitors.

Advanced Features for a Safer, More Comfortable Experience

The renovation effort goes beyond the essentials, focusing on both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the facility. To maintain high hygiene standards, new tiles have been installed along the sidewalls throughout the hospital up to a height of five feet. These upgrades ensure not only a more attractive appearance but also easier cleaning and maintenance. Civil works, including the repair of damaged walls and surfaces, were also completed to restore the structural integrity of the hospital building.

One of the critical aspects of the renovation was preventing water seepage, a common problem in older buildings. The hospital’s terraces have been waterproofed using advanced materials to protect the infrastructure. Additionally, the building’s doors and windows have been repaired and repainted to address wear and tear accumulated over time. To enhance safety, two old lifts have been completely refurbished and brought back into service after a 12-year gap, while all non-functional fans and lights have been replaced with energy-efficient models.

Improving Accessibility and Safety for All

The hospital’s infrastructure overhaul also focused on improving accessibility and safety. The hospital’s parking areas have been revamped with high-quality paver blocks, and a new, spacious 5,000-square-foot waiting area has been constructed for patients and their families. This sheltered space provides protection from adverse weather, significantly improving the overall patient experience.

In terms of safety, the hospital’s boundary wall has been reconstructed and reinforced for enhanced security, and a sturdy cattle trap has been installed at the main entrance to prevent stray animals from entering the premises. The hospital now also features an improved lighting system, including high mast lights, to ensure visibility and safety during nighttime hours.

Landscaping and Aesthetic Upgrades Enhance the Environment

A comprehensive horticulture program has been implemented to enhance the hospital’s landscape, with lush greenery and well-maintained garden areas providing a more welcoming environment for patients and visitors alike. The main gate has also been reinforced and aesthetically upgraded to create a dignified and inviting entry point to the hospital, symbolizing the commitment to patient care and community well-being.

A Step Forward in Public Healthcare

The renovation of Ludhiana Civil Hospital is a testament to the Punjab government’s commitment to improving healthcare standards in the state. With modernized medical facilities and enhanced infrastructure, the hospital is poised to offer better healthcare services to the people of Ludhiana. By addressing both the practical and aesthetic needs of the hospital, the renovation project is expected to benefit the community for years to come.

As Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Singh Mann dedicated the hospital to the people, they reiterated their commitment to ensuring that quality healthcare services are accessible to all, furthering the AAP’s vision for an improved public healthcare system in Punjab.
