Water Resources Minister strongly condemns oppressive operations against farmers

Chandigarh, February 15: Taking strong exception of the brutal action against farmers by the Haryana police at Khanauri & Shambhu border, Punjab Water Resources and Soil & Water Conservation Minister S. Chetan Singh Jouramajra said that it has exposed yet again the anti-democratic and dictatorial mindset of BJP Governments, who can stoop so low to oppress the voice of farmers.

The Cabinet Minister said, farmers are the backbone of the country and they deserve respectful treatment from the centre government, while criticising Modi-led Centre government for failing to fulfill its promises made to farmers, contrasting the huge relief of crores of rupees provided to the big industrialists, with the negligence towards the genuine demands of the agrarian community. He expressed dismay over the deterioration of the situation, saying that the Modi government’s actions reveal a fear of facing the farmers.

Releasing photos of injured farmers to the media, the Cabinet Minister strongly condemned the use of teargas and pellet guns against farmers, barricading roads and fortifying the National Capital, stating that it is regrettable to witness the central government escalating tensions without delivering on its assurances to the farmers.

Reiterating the support of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government for the farmers, S. Chetan Singh Jouramajra lamented the Modi government of attempting to oppress the farmers after failing to fulfill commitments. “On the directions of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh, we (the Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and me) are visiting to the hospital for acquire about the well being of the injured farmers”, he added.

Lashing out at the BJP-led Haryana Government, the Cabinet Minister condemned the use of police to deter farmers from their peaceful march, describing it as a disrespectful and undemocratic act. He urged the Union government to address the farmers’ concerns immediately, implement promised reforms and prioritize their well-being for the nation’s food security and rural prosperity.

“The BJP government has conveniently forgotten its promises to farmers, leaving them grappling with immense challenges. This blatant disregard is unacceptable,” asserted S. Chetan Singh Jauramajra, urging the Modi-led Centre government and Khattar-led Haryana government to cease providing step-motherly treatment to farmers and to recognize the vital role of the “Annadata” in the country’s progress.
