India created history by fielding the most athletes (124 total) to the Olympics and taking home the most medals (seven) in a single competition. In men’s javelin throw, Neeraj Chopra captured a historic gold medal. Neeraj will once more be in the spotlight as he attempts to defend his championship at the 2016 Olympics in Paris.

India had controversy around Olympic quotas throughout the shooting. At the 2022 ISSF World Championships, trap shooter Bhowneesh Mendiratta earned India’s first Paris 2024 quota; however, he was left off the final squad following national trials. Prithviraj Tondaiman, on the other hand, received the category quota. India achieved a quota in every Olympic shooting category for the first time.

Priyanka Goswami and Akshdeep Singh, race walkers, became the first Indians to earn spots in the athletics competitions at Paris 2024. For the men’s 20-kilometer walk, four Indian athletes satisfied the qualifying mark, with one breaking through the world rankings. A maximum of three athletes from each national federation can compete in each event; hence, Ram Baboo and Suraj Panwar were not chosen, but Akshdeep, Vikash, and Paramjeet Singh were. Suraj will accompany Priyanka in Paris, although Priyanka and Akshdeep have also earned quotas for India in the mixed relay marathon race walk event.
