Her husband, Sushil Nathaniel, was among the 26 victims killed in the assault, which targeted non-Muslim tourists. A Narrow Escape Turned Tragic Jennifer recounted how she and her family narrowly escaped the initial onslaught. “We were about to return when my husband needed to use the washroom,” she said. “After he came out, a loud noise erupted, and we saw the first person shot. A girl was crying, asking to be killed.” The couple hid behind a washroom, but the terrorists soon found them. “They asked my husband to recite the Kalma; he said he didn’t know,” Jennifer recalled, implying his death moments later. The Attack’s Brutality The terrorists, reportedly from Lashkar-e-Taiba’s offshoot The Resistance Front, segregated victims by religion and executed them. They asked men to recite Islamic verses and checked for circumcision before shooting. A local pony operator, Syed Adil Hussain Shah, was killed while attempting to protect tourists. Some attackers spared women, telling them to “tell this to Modi.” Funeral and Tributes Sushil Nathaniel’s body was returned to Indore, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav paid respects at the airport. The funeral took place at a Christian cemetery in Veena Nagar, with family and friends honoring his memory. Daughter Akanksha, who survived the attack with bullet injuries, also attended the service. Ongoing Investigation The National Investigation Agency has initiated a probe into the attack. Sketches of three terrorists involved have been released, and intelligence agencies are tracking their movements. The mastermind, identified as Saifullah Kasuri (alias Khalid), is a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander. National and International Reactions The attack has drawn widespread condemnation. Indian leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, termed it a “dastardly and inhuman act.” Internationally, countries like the US, UK, and Saudi Arabia expressed condolences. In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan and closed the main border crossing.
