Nitish Kumar Pledges 1 Crore Jobs in Bihar Ahead of 2025 Elections

Bihar Election 2025: Nitish Kumar Vows 1 Crore Jobs, Announces Skill University for Youth

Patna, July 14 – With the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 looming on the horizon, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has unveiled a bold and youth-centric employment agenda aimed at securing the trust of the state’s young voters. In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the CM announced an ambitious target of providing government and private sector jobs or employment opportunities to one crore youths over the next five years (2025–2030).

Nitish Kumar, who has helmed multiple developmental initiatives during his tenure, said a high-level committee would be constituted to monitor and implement the employment roadmap. The move is being seen as a strategic attempt to address Bihar’s chronic unemployment challenge and energize his political campaign.

A Doubling of the 2020–25 Employment Target

“In the next five years, we are setting a target to double our earlier goal and provide government jobs and employment to one crore youths, through both public and private sector opportunities,” the Chief Minister declared.

He emphasized that the private sector, especially industrial zones, would play a crucial role in generating employment. Kumar stated that dedicated efforts would be made to foster industrial growth in Bihar, which has traditionally lagged behind more developed states in terms of industrial infrastructure.

Focus on Skill Development: Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University

In a significant announcement aligned with the job creation drive, Nitish Kumar also revealed the government’s plan to establish a skill development university named after Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpuri Thakur, the late socialist leader and former Chief Minister of Bihar.

“In the coming time, a skill university will be established for skill development, which will be named Jananayak Karpuri Thakur Skill University, in honour of Bihar’s pride, so that the youth of the state can find a new direction in employment,” said Kumar.

The university will focus on upskilling the youth to enhance their employability and promote self-employment, especially in rural and semi-urban areas of Bihar. The institution will serve as a hub for technical training, vocational education, and entrepreneurship development.

Expansion of the Saat Nischay Programme

Kumar also reiterated his government’s commitment to the Saat Nischay (Seven Resolves) programme, which has been at the core of his developmental agenda for years. The initiative has previously aimed at providing amenities like piped water, electricity, and connectivity, while also facilitating youth development through skill training and employment schemes.

“The ongoing programme under ‘Saat Nischay’ will be expanded… Youths of the state are being connected to self-employment by giving them training,” Kumar said.

The expansion is expected to integrate more youth into state-supported employment schemes while simultaneously fostering entrepreneurship and small business growth.

A Strategic Political Move Ahead of 2025 Elections

With Bihar set to go to polls in 2025, Nitish Kumar’s announcement is being viewed as a strategic electoral promise aimed at reinforcing his image as a development-focused leader. Youth unemployment remains a critical issue in Bihar, and this promise comes at a time when the opposition is likely to make job creation a major campaign theme.

Political analysts suggest that this pre-election push could serve to reignite support among younger voters, especially first-time voters, who make up a significant share of Bihar’s electorate.

The proposed employment drive, if executed effectively, could alter the socio-economic dynamics of the state and provide a robust boost to Bihar’s job market.
