Nine people have died in Bihar from lightning strikes.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the death of nine people due to lightning and announced ex-gratia of ₹4 lakh to each of the deceased’s family members

Nine people were killed after being struck by lightning in six districts of Bihar in the last 24 hours, officials said on July 6.

 

The lightning deaths were reported from Jehanabad, Madhepura, East Champaran, Rohtas, Saran and Supaul districts, they said.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on July 6, Jehanabad district reported three deaths followed by two in Madhepura, one each in East Champaran, Rohtas, Saran and Supaul.

 

The chief minister urged people to follow advisories issued by the Disaster Management Department.

 

Bihar has been witnessing rainfall for the past few days and due to that the weather department raised an alert for the state. The districts that may receive rainfall today are Bhagalpur, Patna and Purnia.

 

The members of a high-level committee set up by the central government in Bihar to find long-term solutions for the recurring flood-like situation. As per the PTI, a five-member panel briefed the minister on ongoing and proposed flood management and control projects formulated by the central government.

“Almost all rivers are maintaining a rising trend. However, all safety embankments are safe,” said a senior official of the water resources department.
