Madhya Pradesh Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Nagar Singh Chouhan threatened to resign on Monday after being stripped of the Forest and Environment portfolio, which has been assigned to new entrant and Congress turncoat Ramniwas Rawat.
Chouhan stated that if BJP organizational leaders do not respond “positively” to his concerns, his wife Anita Singh Chouhan will also resign as Ratlam MP.
On Sunday, Rawat took over the Forest and Environment Ministry that Nagar previously held.
“My voice was not heard. I will first talk to organisational leaders and decide the next step. I will decide in a day or two after talking to the party organisation. If I feel I should not stay on the post, I will resign along with my wife Anita,” Chouhan, a prominent tribal leader, told sources over the phone.
He stated that tribals account for 23% of the population in Madhya Pradesh.
“This is the first time tribals have been granted leadership, yet the Forest Department, which is strongly identified with tribals, has been taken away and given to a member of Congress. “I don’t think this is beneficial for me or the party workers,” Chouhan stated.
The minister claimed to have discussed the problem with party officials on Sunday night and intends to continue conversations.
“If they wish, I will speak with them. “No worries if they don’t want to,” Chouhan continued.
Ramniwas Rawat, a former Congress MLA and six-time member from Vijaypur in the Sheopur district, joined the BJP during the Lok Sabha election campaign on April 30.
Days after his appointment as a Cabinet minister on July 8, a notification was issued on Sunday announcing that he had been assigned the forest and environment portfolios.
