Shaan talks out about performing at the inaugural India House at the Paris Olympics 2024 and unveiling an unpublished Chandu Champion song.

The Paris Olympics 2024 are about to begin, and Shaan will provide a heartfelt start for the Indian delegation by performing in the first-ever India House in Paris. “It’s a matter of great honour and privilege for me to be there at the inaugration of India House and perform for the entire Indian contingent and also encourage all the Indians present in Paris to cheer for the Indian athletes,” says the singer.

Nita Ambani’s Reliance Foundation conceptualized India House at the Paris Olympics, and Shaan considers himself fortunate to have been given the opportunity to perform a 90-minute set with his band for its launch.

When asked about his next performance, the singer reveals, “I have a song that I recorded for Chandu Champion, but it wasn’t used in the film.” So, I’m going to perform it for the first time and dedicate it to the Indian delegates.

It was written by (composer) Pritam da and (lyricist) Kausar Munir, and it’s an appropriate song for the event. We will perform a medley of songs on sports and patriotism. Aside from that, I will perform a number of my high-energy songs, including Deewangi Deewangi (Om Shanti Om, 2007), Dus Bahane (Dus, 2005), Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe (Dil Chahta Hai, 2001), and others.”

Shaan says that he has a special connection with sports, particularly the Olympics. “My first cousins Rahul Banerjee and Dola Banerjee, who have represented India at the highest level in archery, will also be there as coaches this time. So, I have a family tie to the Olympics,” he explains, adding that athletics and music have a lot in common.

“I meet a lot of friends from sports who tell me that music helps them get in the zone and relax.” So, music and sports complement each other, and the former is particularly effective at motivating and encouraging. “I believe in fitness, and I am one of the fittest singers out there, so I make for a good ‘fit’ at the Olympics,” he jokes.

The musician admits that he has never had the opportunity to visit the Olympics in person before, but he is delighted to do so this time. “For the first time, I will be able to see some of the Olympic games live. This year should be a significant one for the Indian contingent. “We are going to make some special memories this time and increase our medal count more than ever before,” he says.
