Speaking at the ‘Kia Ora Modi’ event in Auckland during his official visit to New Zealand, Modi highlighted India’s economic progress, digital achievements, and the expanding strategic partnership between India and New Zealand.

Addressing a gathering of more than 10,000 members of the Indian diaspora, Modi said the relationship between India and New Zealand is rooted in friendship, shared democratic values, and mutual respect.

He highlighted India’s achievements in digital technology, noting that billions of transactions are carried out every month through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Modi also pointed to India’s rapid advancements in drone technology, the space economy, and innovation-driven development, describing them as examples of the country’s transformation.
According to Modi, India is presenting the world with a new development model based on technology, inclusive growth, and economic reforms.
India-New Zealand Partnership to Expand
A major focus of the PM Modi New Zealand Visit was strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. Modi said the proposed trade agreement would open new opportunities for businesses in both nations and contribute to India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.
He also highlighted cooperation in sectors such as space technology, innovation, and trade, saying there is significant potential for both countries to work together in emerging industries.

The Prime Minister also praised the contribution of the Indian community in New Zealand and mentioned notable personalities, including Nikhil Ravi Shankar, Anand Satyanand, and cricketer Rachin Ravindra, for strengthening ties between the two countries.
Focus on Women’s Empowerment and Heritage
Modi said India continues to expand opportunities for women through its women-led development approach while balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability.
He also spoke about India’s commitment to preserving its cultural and religious heritage, citing the safe relocation of the sacred Saroop of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan during a period of crisis.
