PM Modi and German Chancellor Merz launch International Kite Festival at Ahmedabad, celebrating India-Germany friendship and Gujarat’s cultural heritage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz joined together to launch the International Kite Festival, turning Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront into a beautiful stage of colors and unity under a brilliant January sky. Gujarat’s centuries-old customs were expertly combined with the warmth of contemporary diplomacy to create a spectacle that was both poignant and momentous.

The two leaders were greeted with colorful folk music and traditional Gujarati scarves as they arrived. Gujarat’s cultural spirit was vividly revealed to the visiting German leader as musicians and dancers from all around the state filled the riverfront with rhythmic energy.

Soon after the inauguration, both leaders joined local participants in the celebrations and tried their hand at kite flying. The Prime Minister displayed India’s enduring belief that the world is one family by flying a specially made kite with the words “Bharat – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” Kites flying the Tricolor, Hindu gods, and imaginative designs honoring India and Germany’s friendship glistened in the nearby skies.

The developing connection between the two countries was captured by the crowds that lined the riverbank, many of them waving German and Indian flags. The leaders also had the opportunity to meet kite fliers from around the world who had come to celebrate.

A Worldwide Assembly of Kite Fans

Every year during Uttarayan, the International Kite Festival commemorates the sun’s trek north and the arrival of summer. More than 870 competitors from Gujarat, 135 international kite artists from 50 countries, and 65 flyers from all over India are participating in this year’s event, which runs until January 14.

In Rajkot, Surat, Dholavira, and the Statue of Unity, the foreign kitists had already captivated tourists before coming to Ahmedabad. This three-day event now culminates in the festivities in Ahmedabad.

Sabarmati Ashram To Strategic Discussions

PM Modi greeted Chancellor Merz earlier in the day at the Sabarmati Ashram, where the two leaders watched an exhibition detailing Mahatma Gandhi’s life and legacy and paid floral tributes to him. The German leader wrote his comments in the visitors’ book as well.

On January 12–13, Chancellor Merz will visit India and Germany, marking 25 years of their Strategic Partnership and 75 years of diplomatic ties. Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat welcomed him to Ahmedabad.

Enhancing the Partnership between Germany and India

The two leaders were supposed to have lengthy bilateral talks at Gandhinagar’s Mahatma Mandir after the celebration. The discussions will address important regional and international concerns while concentrating on enhancing collaboration in commerce, technology, education, skill development, defense, green development, innovation, and people-to-people interactions.

The Ministry of External Affairs claims that the visit strengthens ongoing high-level contact and reinforces both nations’ shared ambition for a forward-thinking collaboration that benefits the world community.
