Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh — In the wake of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Indian authorities have intensified scrutiny of foreign nationals residing in the country on long-term visas. Among those under investigation are 22 Pakistani women and two men who have been living in Moradabad for decades, primarily through marital ties to Indian citizens.
The families, which include 95 children—many of whom are now adults and married—have expanded to over 500 members, according to local reports. Despite holding Indian government-issued ration and Aadhaar cards, none of the Pakistani nationals have acquired Indian citizenship, although all have applied for it. Currently, they continue to reside in India on long-term visas.
Recent security concerns following the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in 26 civilian deaths, have prompted authorities to review the backgrounds of these families. Investigations are underway to examine the personal details of all 24 Pakistani nationals living in the district, including the two men, their current occupations, and any potential links to relatives in Pakistan.
Moradabad Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh confirmed that comprehensive data collection is underway. Information is being compiled on all Pakistani-origin families in the area, including the status of their visa applications, ration card usage, family sizes, and overseas connections.
While the women retain their Pakistani citizenship, their children have acquired Indian nationality. The families now consist of Indian citizens born to Pakistani mothers who remain foreign nationals.
The heightened scrutiny of these families reflects broader concerns about national security and the integrity of immigration processes. Authorities are emphasizing the need for thorough background checks and vigilance to ensure that individuals residing in the country are not linked to activities that could pose a threat to national security.
