State pushes crop diversification, strengthens cold chain and post-harvest infrastructure to make horticulture profitable

Chandigarh: Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat stated that the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is extending comprehensive assistance to farmers at every stage — from quality seed supply to marketing of produce — with the aim of increasing their income and making horticulture a profitable and sustainable sector.

The Minister Mohinder Bhagat said the government is ensuring the availability of superior-quality seeds, modern farming techniques, expert technical guidance, and stronger market linkages so that farmers can secure better returns for their crops. He emphasized that continuous institutional support and farmer-centric policies are motivating cultivators to shift from traditional crop patterns towards high-value horticulture crops, which offer greater profitability and long-term sustainability.

Mohinder Bhagat Emphasizes Crop Diversification for Higher Farmer Returns

Highlighting the importance of crop diversification, Mohinder Bhagat noted that fruits, vegetables, and other high-value crops are emerging as more rewarding options for farmers. He added that the government is also focusing on strengthening post-harvest management systems, cold chain networks, pack houses, and food processing infrastructure to reduce wastage and help farmers obtain better market prices.
