RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat says India is a “Hindu nation” by truth, not constitutional approval, during the RSS centenary event in Kolkata.
Kolkata: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized on Sunday that India is a “Hindu nation” and that no constitutional sanction is required because it is the “truth.”
Speaking during a celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of the RSS, Bhagwat declared that India will continue to be a Hindu nation till its culture is valued.
“We don’t know when this has been happening, but the sun rises in the east. Does that also require constitutional approval? Hindustan is a country of Hindus. India is a Hindu country as long as there is even one individual living in Hindustan who believes in and treasures the grandeur of Indian forefathers. This is true for anyone who regards India as their motherland and values Indian culture. This is the Sangh’s philosophy,” he declared during the RSS’s ‘100 Vyakhyan Mala’ event in Kolkata.
“It doesn’t matter if Parliament chooses to add that word to the Constitution. Since we are Hindus and our country is a Hindu nation, we don’t give a damn about that word. That’s the reality. “Hindutva is not characterized by the birth-based caste system,” he continued.
India is a “Hindu Nation,” according to RSS, because of the country’s culture and the majority’s adherence to Hinduism. However, “secular” and “socialist” were inserted to the Preamble of the Constitution by the Constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976, during the Emergency declared by then-prime minister Indira Gandhi.

In order to remove the myth that the organization is “anti-Muslim,” Bhagwat also encouraged people to visit the organization’s headquarters and “shakhas” to learn about its work.
According to Bhagwat, people are aware that the group is “staunch nationalists,” but not anti-Muslim, and that it supports the safety of Hindus.
“As I have stated, the activity of the RSS is transparent if there is a notion that we are anti-Muslim. You can visit at any moment to observe for yourself. If you witness anything similar occurring, you should maintain your opinions; if not, you should alter them. Bhagwat stated, “There is a lot to learn (about RSS), but if you don’t want to learn, then nobody can change your mind.”
But you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to learn, he remarked.
“People have said that you are ardent nationalists after seeing. You support the safety of Hindus and organize Hindus. You’re not anti-Muslim, though. Many people have come to terms with this, and anyone interested in learning more should visit the RSS, he said.
